THE BORDER CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT

The point of departure for the upcoming exhibition weekend is that 2015 saw the most refugees worldwide since WWII. Three activists present their projects that deal with this stream.

Bag Mohajer is a social project in which refugees sew bags out of unusable old clothes as well as rubber dinghies and life jackets that were brought along in the perilous journey across the Mediterranean to Europe. Mohajer Bags provide jobs for the people in the process of applying for asylum.

Giwan Mose’s political caricatures are telling stories of frustration with being stuck in bureaucracy and “Residenzpflicht” without being allowed to do much, let alone work.

Freelance photographer Max Bondy has visited several waypoints along the so-called Balkan route and documented the situation. His pictures show the view point of the independent volunteer as well as the lack of government or financial aid desperately needed to support the refugees on their difficult journey across Europe.

On Friday, Giwan Mose and Max Bondy introduce their work at 20:30. Saturday starts of with the initiative Bag Mohajer giving a presentation of their work with refugees at 17:30, and Giwan Mose will again speak about his inspiration for his caricatures at 18:00 before Max Bondy presents more of his work in a slide show. The evening closes with a group discussion with the chance for the audience to ask questions.
